I recently had an accident (not related to exploring) and currently have months of rehab in front of me before I will be able to get out and exploring and reporting on some more places in San Diego. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I will make sure to have some new places as soon as I can!
It makes me sad to hear this. I absolutely LOVE this site and can’t wait until you update. Get better soon!
I hope your recovery is going along nicely. It has been rather amazing to see the places you have found!
Dang. Hope you recover soon! In the meantime, we’ll enjoy exploring the areas archived on this site. Come back healthy and ready for more!!
I’ve heard rumors and met a man whose been there of an abandoned military base outside of the delzura/ Barrett junction area… Apparently you need bureau of land management maps or usgs maps from before the 1970s.. I’ve been to SDSU an checked out some usgs maps but I’m still workin on it
Interesting… I will have to do some info on it. You are not talking of the Mt. Laguna Air Force Station Operations Area are you?
I just stumbled upon this webpage and saw the Dulzura comments. I used to live in Dulzura and occasionally rode my dirtbike up to the old WWII batteries on Otay Mountain. There are also alot of abandoned mines and old ranch houses left over from the Pio Pico land grant days. It’s all on BLM land now, some accessable by vehicle, some by hiking. You can see the batteries from the Otay Truck Trail. They are located toward the top of Otay Mountain on the Otay Mesa side.
It looks like this Reader article talks about the batteries and has a small map of their location. Not sure if this is the original place you were talking about Matt.
